🦈 White-eyed shark spotted off Kerala coast
An eerie white-eyed catshark was discovered from a shrimp trawler's catch off the coast of Kerala. Scientists found this previously unknown predator in deep waters along the Kollam slope in 2022. The initial find was followed by collecting three more specimens in 2024 at Sakthikulangara Fisheries Harbour. Researchers concluded this catshark was a new species, named ‘Apristurus drona’, under the Ministry of Earth Sciences' mission. Additionally, another new dogfish shark species, Squalus hima, was described in 2024 from the same region. 🦈
