๐ง West Antarctica's hidden water system revealed ๐ง
Scientists used NASA's ICESat satellite measurements to uncover 14 areas of moving water under West Antarctica. This research, which appeared in the journal "Science," was conducted between 2003 and 2006. One specific hidden lake drained an estimated 2 cubic kilometres of water over just three years. This showed that Antarctic subglacial lakes are not static but part of an interconnected, dynamic water system. These findings are crucial for understanding future ice sheet behavior and sea-level changes.
