science π Weird stars shaped early universe galaxies
Galaxies in the early Universe looked significantly different from today's, prompting an investigation by researchers at the University of Utah. They surveyed nearby stars using the TEMPOS catalog, targeting analogs of those from the Universe's infancy. The study focused on 29 massive, metal-poor stars in dwarf galaxies, utilizing Hubble Space Telescope's UV data from August 2023. These massive stars drastically influenced galaxy evolution by heating and regulating gas availability for new star formation. Further research will use this dataset to build better models of those initial, massive Population III stars.
