world π USCIRF calls for sanctions against RSS leaders
The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) has called for sanctions against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Officials requested the U.S. government not to grant high-level meetings or diplomatic courtesies to its leaders. USCIRF Chair Asif Mahmood noted that RSS sub-groups have attacked religious minorities, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is an RSS member. This comes ahead of RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat's visit to the U.S. on August 29 for 'Universal Oneness Celebrations'. India has rejected the USCIRF report, calling its portrayal of the country distorted. π
