Uttar Pradesh has achieved significant progress in rural sanitation under the Swachh Bharat Mission. The state constructed over 2.15 crore household toilets initially, with an additional 48.99 lakh built in the second phase. Annually, approximately Rs 750 crore is allocated for maintaining 15.5 lakh drains, septic tanks, and Gobardhan plants. These sustained efforts have secured Uttar Pradesh the third rank nationally in the Swachh Bharat Mission. The initiative also covers cleaner roads and an active open defecation free drive across villages.
