science π¬ UNC researcher gets $700k for cancer cell research
A UNC researcher, Jessica Thaxton, was awarded a $700,000 grant from the Mathers Foundation. This funding supports her study on the endoplasmic reticulum's role in T-cell metabolism and cancer development at UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. The award is the first Mathers Foundation grant to a UNC-Chapel Hill faculty member in two decades. Her research integrates stress biology and immunology to create novel cancer treatments. The project aims to see if changing the endoplasmic reticulum's structure can boost immune cells against tumors. π¬
