π¬ Ultrasound targets brain cancer with tiny RNA molecules
A research team successfully used focused ultrasound to deliver microRNAs for glioblastoma treatment in mice. Led by Roger Abounader at UVA, the project combined nanoparticles and focused ultrasound to cross the blood-brain barrier. In two mouse models, this delivery method reduced tumor burden and extended survival compared to controls. This approach allows simultaneous regulation of multiple cancer pathways instead of single-target drugs. Further research is necessary to test this promising preclinical strategy in humans.
