A new computational tool, named Goose, can design disordered proteins and figure out what they do. US researchers developed this system at Washington University in St Louis, US. It generates thousands of new disordered protein regions per minute, as of recent testing. This allows scientists to map how amino acid arrangements in these proteins relate to their cell function, potentially aiding cancer research. The tool is seen as an enabling platform to create new, sensitive biological sensors.
