π΄ Tiredness might be sleep apnea, not just aging
Sleep apnea is a disorder that often goes unnoticed, presenting as everyday tiredness after a certain age. Sleep physicians in Delhi see patients brought in by their partners, not doctors, noticing breathing pauses. Estimates suggest one in twenty to one in three Indians might be affected, with an AIIMS Bhopal study finding near 30% moderate-to-severe apnea. While weight is a major cause, issues like a recessed jaw also contribute to the obstruction. Doctors often prescribe CPAP, though many patients discontinue use due to mask discomfort.
