π¦ Tiger heron catches and eats bird for the first time
Scientists in Costa Rica documented the first known instance of a bare-throated tiger heron killing and eating another bird. This stocky heron was observed at an artificial water reservoir in Liberia, Costa Rica. The event involved the heron repeatedly dunking a great kiskadee, happening on at least three occasions. Researchers suggest this shows the heron can opportunistically eat semi-terrestrial prey like birds. This record expands the known dietary breadth of T. mexicanum.
