The Tamil Nadu government announced it will treat dementia as a public health priority and strive to make the state 'dementia friendly.' This was declared by Health and Family Welfare Minister KG Arun Raj at DemCon 2026 held at IIT Madras Research Park. Projections indicate nearly 10 lakh people in Tamil Nadu might live with dementia by 2036. The conference focused on awareness, early diagnosis, and building support frameworks for caregivers. Moving forward, the state's action plan aims to ensure diagnosed individuals receive proper support and care. π§
