⚖️ Syria's Assad gets death sentence from local court
Former Syrian president Bashar al-Assad and Atef Najib were sentenced to death by a criminal court in Damascus. The court convicted Assad of war crimes and crimes against humanity, while Najib was convicted of murder and torture. Assad fled Damascus in December 2024 after the anti-regime forces took over the government. This ruling is the first of its kind under the country’s current transitional authorities. Assad is now reportedly living in Moscow with asylum from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
