science 🔬 Surface superconductivity seen in PtBi2 material
Researchers visualized superconductivity confined to the surface of $\gamma$-PtBi₂ topological semimetal. This finding was made by scientists from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and Iowa State University. The material showed a critical temperature of 2.9 K and a critical field of about 1.8 T on January 1, 2024. This surface state superconductivity differs from bulk superconductivity and links to the material's Fermi arcs. The discovery offers potential for advanced quantum device applications. 🔬
