india ⚖️ Supreme Court strength boosted to 38 judges
The President of India has officially given assent to the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Act 2026. This law raises the sanctioned strength of Supreme Court judges from 34 to 38, encompassing the Chief Justice of India. The proposal was initiated after Chief Justice of India Surya Kant wrote to the Prime Minister on May 11, citing case inflow issues. The Bill was introduced by Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on July 20 during the monsoon session of Parliament. This move aims to improve the court's daily disposal rate amidst increasing workload.
