Highest-resolution images of the Sun's surface revealed spinning plasma vortices, as captured by the Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope. This discovery was made by researchers from the National Solar Observatory and Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research on August 5, 2026. The vortices, some as small as 20 kilometers, are thought to relate to the long-standing coronal heating problem. This new data point adds to decades of research into the Sun's extreme temperature differences. Scientists will continue studying these dynamics to better understand solar physics mechanisms. π
