π Star spin might crack black hole mystery
A star's rotation could finally explain why some flares dim during repeated black hole encounters. This phenomenon involves stars orbiting supermassive black holes in galaxies. Among roughly 10 repeating systems, four show this progressive fading pattern. Previous models struggled because less stripped material should not produce fainter flares. Researchers suggest a star's initial rapid spin stabilizes the material return time, causing the flare to fade.
