π¬ Smart dots detect food dye fast
Scientists developed carbon quantum dots (CQDs) using an eco-friendly electrical flash method to detect Ponceau 4R food dye. The research, conducted at Sharif University of Technology, demonstrated the CQDs act as a fluorescence probe for the dye. These nanostructures successfully quenched photoluminescence, allowing detection in a range of 0β4000 ng/mL with an LOD of 300 ng/mL. A low-cost, portable sensing platform using just a smartphone was created for easier accessibility. This scalable method offers a benign way to monitor food safety applications. π¬
