☄️ Simulating nuclear strike on huge asteroid ☄️
Scientists simulated using a 1-megaton nuclear device against a 160-metre asteroid to study planetary defense. This research, led by Isaiah Santistevan of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, tested three scenarios published in The Planetary Science Journal. The simulations suggest nuclear disruption could be highly effective in two of the three cases, offering a last resort option. However, fragment tracking was limited by computational demands, meaning long-term fate is unknown. This remains a contingency plan, not a replacement for early deflection methods.
