health π¦ Silent pandemic: antibiotics failing fast
Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) is causing a silent pandemic, projected to kill 39 million people globally between 2025 and 2050. This crisis is fueled by overuse in human medicine and vast antibiotic consumption in agriculture worldwide. India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh are projected to see around 11.8 million direct deaths in this period. Resistance is already evident, with carbapenem resistance in E. coli climbing from 19% in 2017 to 34% in 2022 in India. Medicine faces a slow, inevitable shift as treatments become less effective globally. π
