🔬 Self-sampling works for catching respiratory infections
A pilot study found that self-sampling is feasible for monitoring respiratory infections at home. Researchers enrolled 108 Swiss households, including people and pets, from May to September 2023. Overall, 70% of human samples and 51% of pet samples were successfully analyzed. This supports using remote surveillance for pandemic preparedness using online questionnaires. The findings suggest a decentralized household-based cohort can be established for future disease monitoring. 🔬
