science π§ Scrolling videos changes brain activity, study finds
Watching short-form videos can reduce activity in brain regions for cognitive control and self-regulation. This effect was observed in 56 young adults at Zhejiang University in China. Activity dropped in the dACC and dlPFC when participants watched preferred videos, linked to glutamate levels. Researchers noted this deactivation is likely due to passive viewing, not a failure of control. Individual glutamate differences may explain why some people struggle more with endless scrolling. π§
