π¬ Scotland recycles lab plastic with new tech
Scotland has started a world-first recycling method for contaminated single-use lab plastics. Scottish Water is implementing Envetec's GENERATIONS technology at its labs in places like Edinburgh and Inverness. Since January 2026, the system has processed about 72,000 contaminated sample bottles. This new approach tackles tricky waste that normally goes to landfill, supporting public health monitoring. The technology is now expanding to handle Petri dishes and pipette tips next.
