๐๏ธ Science reveals how Grand Canyon really formed
Major John Wesley Powell named the Grand Canyon in 1869 after exploring the Colorado River. New research in 2026 analyzed zircon grains to trace the river's past path. It is shown that the river first flowed into a large basin around 6.6 million years ago. This water eventually spilled, starting the canyon formation around 5.6 million years ago. The river ultimately reached the Gulf of California about 4.8 million years ago. ๐๏ธ
