science ⛰️ SC tasks CEC to check Himachal's green belt issues
The Supreme Court referred several environmental issues concerning Himachal Pradesh to the Centrally Empowered Committee (CEC). Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta ordered the CEC to examine these issues in phases, focusing on three topics at a time. This action followed the 2025 flash floods and landslides that devastated lives and property in the state. The CEC will review ecological preservation in the Shimla Planning Area, addressing concerns raised by Yogendra Mohan Sengupta. The committee is allowed to call for data and conduct site inspections to complete its review.
