health π Red Hexagons Coming to Food Labels in India
The FSSAI has proposed mandatory front-of-pack warning labels for packaged foods containing excessive sugar, salt, and fat. This proposal was submitted by the food safety regulator to the Supreme Court of India. The plan mandates bold red hexagonal labels for products exceeding ICMR-NIN set nutrient thresholds starting in two phases. This move follows sharp criticism from the Supreme Court regarding regulatory delays in protecting public health. Phase I will target products with two or more high nutrients, with Phase II expanding the rule later. π
