Panthic politics in Punjab is facing a major crossroads despite Sikhs making up over 57.69% of the electorate. Support for the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) started decreasing after 2012, shifting away from the traditional regional party. In 2017, voters moved towards the Congress, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) gained 16 seats in 2022. This decline was fueled by trust issues related to farmer suicides and perceived corruption within the SAD. Voters are now independently deciding their political future, separating spiritual reverence from ballot choices. π
