science π Puerto Rico community needs more than climate data
The community of La Margarita in Puerto Rico faces serious hazards like flooding and storm exposure due to climate change. Residents of this area deal with pollution and crumbling infrastructure, especially after Hurricane Fiona in 2022. A 9-month project involved bilingual interviews with 16 local leaders to understand their concerns. Key issues raised were flooding at 56% and government inaction at 69%. The study emphasizes that environmental justice requires collaboration, not just data provision. π
