science β¨ Programmable MOF glasses change glass coating game
Researchers developed a method to target the structure of metal-organic glasses during production. This breakthrough was achieved by teams from TU Dortmund, Paderborn, Duisburg-Essen, and Oxford University. The modification is done by adding 1,10-phenanthroline before melting, a process demonstrated to work effectively. This allows tailoring optical and magnetic properties directly within the glass, overcoming previous structural limitations. Ultimately, this paves the way for functional glass substrates instead of just passive carriers. π§ͺ
