health π¬ Ovarian cancer might not start in ovaries
New research suggests that nearly all fatal ovarian cancers actually originate in the fallopian tubes, not the ovaries. This finding, discussed with Dr. Rebecca Stone at Johns Hopkins, highlights a major shift in cancer understanding. Salpingectomy, or tube removal, can decrease risk by at least 50 percent, potentially up to 80 percent in some cases. Universal awareness is needed because insurance coverage for this prevention option is not consistent. If widely adopted, this could save almost 2,000 lives annually in the country. π¬
