india π³ OMR residents push back against Mamallan Reservoir plan
Over 1,100 citizens and more than 50 organizations have petitioned Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay to scrap the Mamallan Reservoir project. The proposal aimed to supply drinking water to the OMR region, which currently relies on private water tankers. Residents are concerned that the project will increase flood risk and harm vital wetlands like Pallikaranai marsh. They fear it could alter drainage patterns, affecting areas like Sholinganallur and potentially causing seawater flooding in others. Instead, the community demands protection for existing water bodies and better rainwater harvesting solutions. π§
