๐ด Old Madras street names tell a transport story
Jolted about carts drawn by oxen and horses were a long-standing feature in Madras. Philanthropists erected shelters, including one on Bandi Venkatesa Naicker Street in Thiruvallikeni. Two streets, Cart Track Street in Mambalam and Cart Track Road in Velachery, commemorate these vehicles. K.N. Kesari noted in his memoirs that bullock carts and horse carriages were popular for the wealthy in the early 20th Century. These street names reflect the historical reliance on animal-drawn transport in the city.
