Cornell researchers have developed a technique called DEER to revive worn-out lithium-ion EV batteries. This method restores electrodes without shredding them into raw materials, giving them a chance at reuse. The process successfully recovered up to 95% of the original capacity in the treated cells. This is significantly better than untreated batteries, which degraded at 0.072% per cycle. The research suggests electrodes could even be regenerated multiple times, offering a new path for battery life. π
