science π New Moon Crater Reveals Subsurface Secrets
NASA's LRO found a new 728-foot-wide McGetchin Crater on the Moon's near side, near Mare Crisium. This crater, likely formed by a bolide in Spring 2024, was detected late last year in LRO images. It is the largest new crater identified by LROC since 2009, offering deep insights into impact effects. Scientists also found a 4-mile-wide cold spot around it, indicating disturbed regolith. Future missions are needed to further study this significant geological finding. π
