🔬 New EAU guidelines revamp how UTIs are managed
The European Association of Urology released its 2026 guidelines, introducing major updates for managing urinary tract infections. These guidelines, relevant for clinicians across Europe, replace the old 'complicated' vs 'uncomplicated' UTI classification. Infections are now sorted into localized or systemic types based on clinical presentation, like fever or dysuria. The updates strongly stress antibiotic stewardship, advising against treating asymptomatic bacteriuria in most cases. Clinicians must now assess individual patient risk factors for successful treatment outcomes.
