tech ๐ฌ New coating makes brain implants last longer and safer
Chinese scientists have created a multifunctional electrode coating to fix issues in long-term brain-computer interface implantation. This development was done by a team led by Zhang Wei at the Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Animal studies showed the coated electrodes operated stably for over 300 days, while bare electrodes failed after 90 days. The coating offers antibacterial and immune-rejection-inhibiting properties, enabling safe removal without brain damage. This technology paves the way for more reliable and long-term BCI clinical applications. ๐ง
