A high-energy neutrino candidate, IC 210922A, was detected deep within Antarctic ice on September 22, 2021. Scientists narrowed the search to a region in space, prompting global observatory scans for its origin. Nearly five years later, the JCMT identified the best candidate, dubbed Shadow Blaster, roughly 11 billion years ago. This dusty starburst galaxy was magnified into four arcs by a closer galaxy's gravity. The finding connects a particle alert to a distant, obscured galaxy type. π
