π Nepal's rhinos cross into India for water ποΈ
The number of one-horned rhinos in Bardiya National Park is declining due to water shortages and shrinking grasslands. Around 20 rhinos crossed into Indiaβs Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary via the Khata corridor over the last two years. The park's 2021 census counted 38 rhinos, while seven have died in the past five years. Conservationists are worried as natural water sources, like the Geruwa river, have changed course. A donor organization plans to fund new ponds and habitat improvements this year.
