science π¬ Nanoparticles regenerate brain cells in Alzheimer's mice
Engineered nanoparticles, called Nano-ERASER, successfully regenerated neurons and boosted cognition in Alzheimerβs mice. Researchers at the University of South Carolina used this system, which targets PTBP1, to convert astrocytes into functional neurons in mice. The study, published on August 26th, showed improved nesting skills and better water maze performance in treated animals. Furthermore, the mice exhibited higher neuron density and less amyloid-beta buildup compared to controls. The team plans to test this platform in nonhuman primates before considering human clinical trials. π§
