ποΈ Morgan family land becomes Acadia National Park
Financier J P Morgan bought 117 acres in Maine in 1900 as a wedding gift to his daughter Louisa. This land, which included Sand Beach and Great Head, was known as 'Satterlee field' for decades. After Louisa and Herbert died, Eleanor Morgan Satterlee donated approximately 100 acres in 1949. This donation to Acadia National Park was made in memory of her mother, Louisa P. Satterlee. Visitors can now explore this landscape via the Great Head Trail. ποΈ
