science 🏗️ Molecular Velcro cement fixes itself, big deal
Researchers developed a self-healing cement composite using ultra-low polymer concentrations for rapid crack repair. This innovation was synthesized using Type I/II Portland cement and silica fume. The study demonstrated quick crack sealing within about 4 hours and sustained healing over six cycles. This mechanism mimics molecular Velcro, using reversible bonding to mend fractures autonomously. This could significantly lower the environmental impact of concrete infrastructure. 🏗️
