science π MIT team turns space trash into new gear
An MIT team, CERBERUZ, clinched the first prize in NASAβs LunaRecycle Challenge Phase 2. They developed a system to recycle mixed waste for lunar and deep-space missions. This project secured US$ 775,000 and involved grinding waste into powder reinforced with Zotek foam. The technology can create feedstock for 3D-printing or injection-moulded parts, cutting down on sorting needs. The challenge aims to advance space recycling tech, leading to a finale after two years of innovation.
