business ⛽ Mega scheme to boost India's biogas sector
The Union Cabinet approved the 'GOBARdhan' National Circular Bioenergy Scheme with a total outlay of Rs 23,731 crore. This massive scheme aims to strengthen the biogas sector across India, targeting farmers and energy needs. It will be implemented from FY27 to FY36, aiming to increase domestic Compressed Biogas production nearly 10-fold. The framework establishes a reliable market through procurement by City Gas Distribution entities, setting specific obligation trajectories. This provides long-term revenue certainty to producers while supporting infrastructure development. ⛽
