ποΈ Maine returns 11,297 acres to Penobscot Nation
11,297 acres near the East Branch of the Penobscot River were officially returned to the Penobscot Nation on September 16, 2026. This significant first phase was executed by the Trust for Public Land in partnership with the Nation in Maine. The wider WΓ‘hsehtΙkΚ· effort aims to restore over 30,000 acres, with $20.7 million already raised towards the $32.5 million goal. The land is crucial for Penobscot culture and will allow for habitat restoration and resource access. The partners are now focused on securing the remaining funding to finalize the larger land return. ποΈ
