business ⚖️ Lawyer's body reserves presidency for women
The Advocates Association of Western India (AAWI) has amended its Constitution to reserve the presidency for a woman advocate. This major change affects AAWI, a lawyers association based in the Bombay High Court. The resolution was passed unanimously, making it the first time a woman will hold this post in its 162 years of existence. This decision follows a report by the Constitutional Amendment Committee, which was formed on August 9, 2026. Furthermore, the committee recommended gender representation in other leadership roles across the association.
