business π§ Ladakh taps glacier melt for farm revival
Ladakh administration started diverting nearly 90 million litres of glacier-melt water daily into the Igoo-Phey Irrigation Canal. This effort targets 1,000 acres of dry land, serving about 12 villages in the region. The diversion, initiated after LG V K Saxena's direction on August 14, increased the canal's flow from 50 cusecs to nearly 80 cusecs. This intervention proves large-scale water diversion is possible for cold desert agriculture. Future plans include expanding this cost-effective model to other streams across Ladakh. π§
