science π JWST finds early galaxies are way more massive
Astronomers discovered that early universe galaxies hold significantly more small stars than previously thought. This finding, involving an international team including Penn State researchers, was published in Nature Astronomy. They analyzed nine massive, mature galaxies using JWST and Very Large Telescope data, dating back billions of years. This challenges existing theories on how the very first galaxies formed and evolved in the cosmos. Researchers plan to use this technique to study galaxies from even earlier cosmic periods. π
