world ⚖️ Juvenile tried as adult: Conviction stays, sentence goes
The Supreme Court ruled that a conviction on merits need not be set aside if a juvenile was tried by a regular court. Justice Aravind Kumar and Justice Vipul M. Pancholi heard the case in Haryana involving an accused sentenced to life imprisonment for murder. The Court accepted the juvenility plea for the Appellant, who was tried as an adult. Consequently, the life imprisonment and seven years' rigorous imprisonment sentence cannot operate against the appellant. The JJ Board, Sonepat, must ensure compliance with Section 19 of the JJ Act 2000.
