π JP Morgan unit and broker allegedly rigged Sensex
Regulators flagged three sharp, sudden spikes in the Sensex index during the closing auction session on August 13. The unusual activity involved Copthall Mauritius Investment, a JPMorgan Chase entity, and Mumbai-based Mansi Share and Stock Broking Private Limited. These entities were found to have placed and then cancelled massive buy and sell orders in seconds to influence the index movement. Copthall allegedly gained Rs 2.96 crore, while Mansi gained Rs 71.64 lakh from their opposing strategies. Consequently, SEBI banned both firms from the securities market to maintain fair price discovery.
