π₯ Japan invents word for extreme heat
Japan has coined the term 'kokushobi' to describe its severe heatwaves gripping East Asia. The intense heat has caused multiple cities to see temperatures over 104 degrees Fahrenheit recently. Between July 20 and 26, about 18,600 people were hospitalized for heatstroke, with 45 deaths reported. This extreme weather is also complicating earthquake recovery efforts in Japan's Kumamoto prefecture. The government has issued heatstroke alerts, and zoos are struggling to keep animals safe. π‘οΈ
