One in nine people aged 60 and above in Jammu and Kashmir has dementia, marking the highest prevalence in India. This finding is from Srinagar, highlighting growing brain and vascular disease burdens as the population ages. Data shows 11.04 percent of J&K's 60+ population had dementia, compared to 7.43 percent nationally. Tobacco use and high blood pressure are noted risk factors contributing to this issue. Demographics alone could double these numbers to about 2.53 lakh by 2036.
